How to Install LED Headlights on a Ski-Doo Gen 4 or Lynx Snowmobile

How to Change a Ski-Doo Gen 4 Headlight Bulb

The following steps cover the general process demonstrated in the video. Always work carefully around the factory plastics, connectors, wiring, and headlight housing.

1. Access the Ski-Doo Headlight Housing

Begin by accessing the rear of the factory headlight assembly. On the Ski-Doo Gen 4 shown in the video, fasteners and the appropriate body components are removed so the rear of the headlight housing and electrical connections can be reached.

Take your time during disassembly. Snowmobile body panels and tabs are designed to fit together closely, and forcing a panel can damage a mounting point or plastic tab.

2. Locate the Factory Headlight Bulbs

Once the headlight area is accessible, locate the electrical connectors and the rear of the factory bulbs. Before removing anything, take note of how the factory wiring is routed so it can be returned to a safe position after the new bulbs are installed.

3. Disconnect the Factory Bulb Connector

Disconnect the factory electrical connector from the existing bulb. Pull on the connector itself rather than pulling on the wiring.

This step applies whether you are installing another halogen bulb or replacing the factory lighting with LEDs.

4. Remove the Existing Headlight Bulb

Unlock the existing bulb from the factory headlight housing and carefully remove it.

If you are replacing a burnt-out halogen bulb with another halogen bulb, install the correct replacement bulb using the appropriate handling procedure for that bulb.

If you are upgrading to LED headlights, continue with the LED installation and positioning steps below.

Installing LED Headlight Bulbs in the Factory Housing

Install the LED bulb into the same factory headlight opening used by the original bulb. Make sure the bulb is completely seated and locked into place.

Correct installation is important. An LED bulb that is not fully seated or is positioned incorrectly can affect how the factory reflector directs the light.

Why LED Bulb Positioning Matters

A headlight reflector is designed around a specific light-source location. When converting from halogen to LED, the location and orientation of the LED emitters inside the housing matter.

Simply putting an extremely bright LED into the housing does not automatically create a good beam pattern. The LED emitters need to be positioned correctly so the factory reflector can direct the light where it belongs.

Connecting the RGB LED Headlight System

Once the bulbs themselves are installed and positioned, the RGB portion of the system can be connected.

The RGB controller provides the connection required for smartphone-controlled color functions. The installation video demonstrates how the system is connected and how the RGB controls are set up.

Route wiring carefully and keep wiring away from hot, sharp, or moving components. Make sure connectors and wiring are secured before reinstalling the snowmobile's body panels.

Setting Up the RGB Headlight App

The RGB lighting functions can be controlled from a compatible smartphone using the app associated with the RGB controller.

The video demonstrates the app setup and several of the available lighting functions, including changing the visible headlight color directly from a cell phone.

Depending on the selected settings, riders can choose from different colors, brightness settings, and RGB lighting effects.

Can You Still See at Night With RGB Headlights?
